The RUFFPAWZ Rescue Centre is destined to be the First Self sustainable rescue center in the UAE. Funds for ongoing operations will be generated by activities and membership fees as well as our very own retail items.
With the rise of Companion Pet ownership – also comes a rise in abandoned, surrendered or rescued animals. Over the Years, the Founder of RUFFPAWZ, whom has been in the pet supply business for over 15 years, has seen a rise in animals left without homes. Especially post Covid.
Animals are abandoned or surrendered for many reasons. Sometimes even those with the best intentions towards their pets end up in impossible circumstances. Job losses, high cost of vet care, extortionate relocation costs, illness and in many occasions with the fast paces of life and rising cost of living they just realize they can no longer cope with the financial and physical needs of the animals in their care.
This is a common occurrence in all countries, however as the UAE is a transient country and a very high percentage of Expat residents, this numbers seem to be higher.
Then we have our prairie dogs and wild dogs, who were small in numbers as wild dogs but have now grown substantially in numbers human negligence (dumping unsprayed dogs) and human interactions (feeding without proper Programs to stop the growth of the population). The Population of stray dogs due to many other reasons is ever growing. We are even seeing many returned Mixed breed dogs due to behavioral issues.
RUFFPAWZ Have a plan to support all areas of animal welfare, including training, vet care, affordable relocations or assistance with relocation costs and much more, we well as house 300+ un owned dogs for rehoming. (this is the proposed plan but final numbers will rely on initial funds for the project).
Many Privately run shelters are now overcrowded where the situation for the dogs is not suitable for the best needs of the animals in their care. Constant worries about food shortages and electricity being disconnected often puts these animal at risk. Other rescue groups struggle with Temporary homes for the dogs in their care, especially through the summer where people travel.
Our aim is to limit the stress to the animal in our care while preparing them for new homes and to be able to assist other groups when they are simply stuck for temporary homes in peak travel seasons.
